Town Dog Ordinance
Why should I contact the Animal Control Officer?
ACO Tina Buckley is charged with the responsibility of enforcing town ordinances regulating the ownership of animals and to respond to incidents in which animals are involved. ACO Buckley will respond to calls for service ranging from stray animals to investigations of cruelty to animals and more. She can answer general questions you may have regarding the role of the Eliot Animal Control.
Where is my dog?

In the case that your pet has mistakenly wandered too far from home and ends up in the care of the Eliot Animal Control Officer chances are that your pet was brought to Creature Comforts, where the animals are held for a certain time before being returned to their owners.
ACO Buckley is also responsible for investigating incidents of human contact with both wild and domestic animals, such as bites.
Why should I license my dog?
State and or local statutes require all dogs to be licensed, and require licenses to be worn at all times. Licenses should be considered as permits which shall mandate specified responsibility and privileges of ownership. Licenses should be issued only upon proof of necessary immunizations.
Licenses provide for the identification of dogs and their owners. It has been proven that licensing programs, adequately enforced, greatly reduce the number of animals impounded unnecessarily, and encourage owner responsibility. Licenses provide owners with proof of legal ownership. Licensing fees can provide a necessary revenue base for animal control services. Fines for licensing violations also help offset the tax burden to the general public for such services.
